A fun-filled weekend with a bunch of 'firsts'. Met up with Eki Saturday morning for our 'first' training ride together of the year. It was abut 15 degrees, a bit of frost and barely a dusting of snow on the road, so I chose the Ferrous. It's tough to start out on the skinny tires of the Tricross when first getting back, not quite the confidence, and with the flat the other day. Eki's still riding the Nondescript singlespeed Winter Cross/commuter, just removed the studded tires. We stuck to tar and had no casualties. A very pleasant 3 hour/50 mile loop. The biking legs are coming around, slowly.
Sunday AM got out for my 'first' long run since Arrowhead. 18 degrees, in the dark with headlamp, Nathan vest, surprised to see the inch of snow we got the other day survived and covering the wooded trails. Felt great for about 12 miles, then the last 3 the legs felt like bricks. Maybe from the bike the day prior, but I think still from 3 weeks ago. Any of you AH135 runners know how long this recovery takes?

After lunch talked the 16 year old son into going out on his 'first' fatbike ride ever. Which actually was my 'first' fatbike ride of the year as well. We lowered the seat of the Purple Pugsley a couple inches and it fit him perfectly. We hit the same 15 mile loop of Lester-Amity ski/snomo trails I hit earlier, following the packed snow ribbon thru the woods. So much fun bombing the hills feeling like you're riding a tank, we both had smiles the entire time. Of course with him taking over the Pugsley, I had to ride a newly arrived Fatback. Was thinking of x-country skiing later to complete the Duluth Winter Triathlon, but ran out of time, and legs.
I like the new bike
